YML Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity toolkit
Manufacturing suffers from a gender imbalance, so it’s important that activities aimed at improving balance are designed in a way to be inclusive and welcoming to all. A ‘Gender balance and inclusion toolkit’ has now been developed for the EIT Manufacturing ‘Young Manufacturing Leaders’ project. University College Dublin led on the creation and delivery of the toolkit, with guidance and input from all partners in the YML consortium.
The toolkit was developed as a guide to all partners and members of YML, to ensure inclusion when creating communications or running events or activities through the network. The toolkit is intended for use every time a new communication or activity is planned by a member of the network.
The toolkit was designed to provide information about best practices in terms of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policies and how to employ them. It is by no means a complete exploration of the topic but rather an introduction and reference point for inclusive content creation. Links to additional information and resources are at the end of the toolkit; however, it is the responsibility of everyone to regularly consult their individual organisation’s EDI policy documents, as this is an ever-changing and evolving area that requires a continual revisiting of best practices.
The toolkit’s contents include:
- Definitions of EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion)
- A guide to inclusive communications
- Inclusive language advice and tips
- Unconscious bias
- Communications dos and don’ts
- Advice on running an inclusive event
- Useful resources
