YML LEARNING PATHS LAUNCHING EVENT

On May 9th, that also happens to be Europe Day, the YML Network organised its first webinar: YML Learning Paths Launching Event.

During the rich programme, that included insightful keynote speeches, roundtables, ice-breaking activities, participants listened to industry professionals shared their viewpoints and provided deeper insight on two key themes of manufacturing: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, with a focus on women in manufacturing  & Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, with a focus on Design Thinking.

The event started off with and introduction of the YML project and its activities led by Marta Pinzone, Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Milano, who also gave a short introduction about the topics of the YML Learning Paths.

THE EDI SESSION

Then, she left the floor to Matthew Holloway, University College Dublin, moderator of the first EDI session, that highlighted the importance and the advantages of addressing the topic, and introduced the speakers of the sessions.

The first speaker of the EDI session was Patricia Cullen, Director of Product Development at Henkel, that addresws how gender equality and inclusion play a decisive role when it comes to a success of a multinational company like Henkel, that aims at reaching gender equality by 2025.

She was followed by Gema Antequera, Head of Future Industry EU Projects Area, CTAG that explained that women have always played a crucial role in manufacturing but how their participation has been largely overlooked in history and talked about the STRADA Programme, that aims to close the gender gap in manufacturing.

After a recap by Matthew Holloway, the session closed with the speech of Carolina Torregrosa Gallo, Education Programme Manager at EIT Manufacturing gave a short explanation innovative learning platform Skills.move and how it can support Europe’s manufacturing industry and empower individuals with the right skills for the future.

THE CIE SESSION

After a short break, we started the second session about Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship with Leonor Cónego, from FEUP and an ice-breaking excercise with the audience.

Then, the moderator of the second session, Artur Freitas Gonçalves from FEUP, introduced the keynote speech of Jorge Grenha Teixeira, Assistant Professor at FEUP that explained how Design Thinking can transform the way to develop products, services and even act as strategic asset.

His speech was followed by an interesting and insightful roundtable with Alexios Papacharalampopoulos Operations Manager from Universdity of Patras, Valentina Müller, Communication and product manager at Jagaad and Oisín Gavigan, R&D Manager at PlasmaBound, that discussed about their work experience with creativity in different sectors and the challenges of creativity and communication in the post pandemic world.

After a sum up of what discussed, the modereator Artur left the final words to Maria Fernanda Mier Vargas, Education Project Assistant at EIT Manufacturing that talked about the value and the advantages of the Skills.move platform.
